Pasquale Panaggio
TOWSON, Md - Pasquale (Pat) Panaggio,
the son of the late Pasquale and Sarah (DeLuca) Panaggio of this city, died at his home in Towson, Maryland, on Sunday, October 16, 2011. He was 89.
The 1940 graduate of Rogers High School enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the battle of Okinawa as a radio-operator and gunner aboard a B-29 bomber of the 20th Air Force.
Upon his graduation in 1951 from Brown University with a degree in sociology, and after moving to Maryland, he served as President of the Brown Club of Maryland.
Soon after he became manager of the California Artificial Flower Co. in Providence. In 1963 he moved to Lutherville, Maryland, and became purchasing manager of the General Register Co., which was a division of the American Totalisator Co. In 1965 he became administrator of Maryland’s Department of Human Services, a position he held until he retired in 1989. He married the former Airline Bond 17 years ago and they enjoyed several trips to Europe and all 50 states.
He was very proud of his Italian heritage and served as a grand trustee of the Grand Lodge of the Maryland Order of the Sons of Italy. At the time of his death he was a board member of the Appian Society. He also served two terms as president of the Italian American Civic Club. “Pat” was an active member of the American Legion Post 183 in Parkville, Maryland. He and his wife were members of the American Friends of Lafayette. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church where the funeral took place October 20.
He is survived by a son, David of Fall River, a daughter Christin Cronan of West Warwick, a stepson George Johansen, Jr of Baltimore, two stepdaughters, Lisa Bartmann of Denver and Connie Lisch of Baltimore, two brothers, Leonard J. Panaggio of Newport and Ronald Panaggio of Chantilly, Virginia and a sister, Corinne Peterson of St. Petersburg, Florida. Also, another brother, the late John Panaggio of Middletown, 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. An earlier marriage to the former Edna Falciglia ended in divorce.
The funeral was held last Thursday, October 20, 2011 and interment was at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Maryland.
