Clotilde Arruda
FALL RIVER, Mass. - Clotilde “Tillie” (Sousa) Arruda,
age 98, of Fall River, MA, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011.
Born in Fegueuro da Vinhos, Portugal, she was the widow of Anibal Arruda and daughter of the late Horacio and Rita (Silvia) Sousa.
Tillie came to Fall River at age 9 and was a US citizen. She had been a saleslady at Cherry & Webb and later a floor girl at Little Dorothy Dress Shop. She was a parishioner of Holy Name Church.
She was the mother of Thomas J. Arruda of Lakeville and Barbara L. Nash (husband William) of Middletown, RI; grandmother of Jeffrey, Michael and Joanne Arruda, Kim Ayala and Kelly Santos, William Jr., Timothy and Andrew Nash; great-grandmother of 11; aunt to several nieces and nephews and sister of the late Helen Arruda and Zulmira Sousa.
Tillie was an avid and faithful fan of the Red Sox.
Tillie’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Landmark and Catholic Memorial for their exceptional care and compassion.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc, 1521 North Main Street, Fall River, MA, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Name Church, Hanover Street, at 10a.m. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery.
