JAMESTOWN - Francis J. “Jim” West,
96, of Green Lane, died Wednesday April 27, 2011 in Portland, Texas.
He was the husband of the late Alberta F. (McNair) West.
Born in Jamestown, he was a son of the late Francis X. and Lily (MacKenzie) West; he was a lifelong Jamestown resident.
Mr. West was a carpenter and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army. He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, VFW 9447 Jamestown, Arnold-Zweir Post #22 American Legion, St. Paul’s Lodge #14 F&AM Middletown, where he was a Past Master, DAV Curran-Hogan Post Newport, #104 BPOE Newport, Jamestown Lions Club, Jamestown Stripers Club, and the Valley of Providence Scottish Rite.
He was the loving father of Deborah West of Portland, TX; caring brother of Lily Richardson of Georgia and the late Kenneth, William (Bill), and Donald West, Frances (Peg) Wallace, Jane Wilson, and Marjorie (Midge) Strange; cherished grandfather of Deborah MacDonald of Barrington, Suzanne Meglen of Portland TX, Meredith MacDonald of Jamestown and the late Alfred J. MacDonald; great-grandfather of ten; great-great grandfather of one.
His Burial Rite will be held Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial with military honors will follow in The Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday, May 1, 2011, 2-4 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741 would be appreciated.
