NEWPORT - Joseph M. Janes,
71, of Bliss Road, Newport, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Newport Hospital.
Born July 8, 1939 in Bronx, NY, he was a son of the late William E. and Edna M. (Millette) Janes.
Joe worked for over 20 years at the former Woolworth Company in Cranston, and in Maine. He also worked for the Preservation Society of Newport County as a security officer. He was a graduate of De La Salle Academy, class of 1958, a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughter Amy Janes and her husband James Walsh of Wakefield, RI; his son Mark Janes and his fiancée Amy St. John of Middletown; his siblings Francis Janes of VA, Sr. Catherine Janes, RSM, Juliette Janes and Edna Janes, all of Newport, Patricia Magill of Portsmouth, and Lillian Knight of Montana.
He was the brother of the late former Newport Police Captain and former Bristol Police Chief William Janes.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Valley Inn Restaurant, 2221 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
