Loretta M. Mizerek
NEWPORT - Loretta Mary (Robicheau) Mizerek,
91, of Newport passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Newport Hospital.
A daughter of the late Malcom and Genevieve (Doucette) Robicheau, she was born on October 26, 1919 in Salmon River, Nova Scotia, Canada. In 1920, Loretta’s family immigrated to Newport beginning her 90 years of residing in Newport.
On September 5, 1942, she married her husband, the late Edward Mizerek, and started a family “between shore leave and wars.”
Loretta was a life long sports fan, starting with listening to Notre Dame Football on the radio. She particularly loved the New England Patriots and the Olympic games. When not watching sports, she enjoyed reading and listening to music from Straus to Sousa. She spent each morning drinking tea and doing crossword puzzles.
She will be missed most of all for her sense of humor and her poems.
Her children, Edward J. Mizerek of Brookeville, MD, John Mizerek of Newport, RI, Anne Miller of Portsmouth, RI and Marie Mizerek of Windham, NH, survive her. 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and many nieces and nephews, also survive her.
Visiting hours for family and friends are from 4-7 p.m., Monday, January 17, 2011 at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 8 a.m. from Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Interment will take place in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown immediately following.
