Victor J. Marcucci
MIDDLETOWN - Victor Jordan Marcucci,
90,of West Main Road, Middletown, RI died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Newport Hospital.
He was the husband of Monica (Lincourt) Marcucci.
Born in Fall River, MA on January 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Guido and Teresa Marcucci.
Mr. Marcucci graduated from Rogers High School and completed his post-graduate studies at Durfee Tech. He and his father and brothers established the original Columbus Bakery in the 1930's on lower Thames Street. During WWII he served in the US Navy as an aircraft machinist in North Africa and also toured as a musician with the Navy Band. During his lifetime, he was involved in managing or owning several businesses including: laundromats, the Base Exchange Toy Store, and a television repair shop. His love of baking and making pizza led him and his wife to open "Papa Vic's Pizza" in the '70's. Until recently, he was a baker at the Shaw's Supermarket in Middletown for 15 years.
He dearly loved his family, friends, playing golf and bridge, music and singing, tending to his garden, and traveling. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, VFW, and American Legion.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his brother Hector Marcucci, and three children, a son Michael Marcucci of San Gabriel, CA, a daughter Diane Janaros and husband Peter of Newport, and daughter Maryann Hayden and husband Tom of Pitman, NJ; six grandchildren, Lt. Col Jason and Peter (PJ) Janaros, Sara (Feazell), Jesse, Kerri and TJ Hayden; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Corrado Marcucci, and the late Esther Botelho.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Emmanuel Church, Dearborn and Spring Street, Newport, RI. Burial will be at Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI.
