Herbert W. Bloom
MIDDLETOWN - Herbert W. Bloom,

82, of Village House Nursing Home, 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, formerly of Phelps Road, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Newport Hospital.
Born in Newport, RI on September 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Herbert W. Bloom and Marion (DeLaVergne) Simmons.
Mr. Bloom served in the United States Army then went to work at the Naval War College until the Korean War when his second tour of duty started. He worked at the Thames Street Post Office for 32 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Bloom was a member of the Postal Clerks Union. He was an avid Red Sox fan, Patriots fan and enjoyed all types of music.
His brother E. Allen Bloom and his wife Joan of East Providence, RI, and his sisters, Barbara Christ and her husband Michael of Middletown, RI and Marion L. Outlaw and many nieces and nephews survive him.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010, from 10-12 a.m. in the funeral home.
