MIDDLETOWN - Ms. Mary Washington,
of Rogers Lane, Middletown, RI, the daughter of the late Mr. Eugene Smalls and Evelena Jones.
Mary was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 9, 1945.
She attended public schools in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from Burke High School in 1963.
Mary had worked and retired from General Electric in Newport. After her retirement Salve Regina University and Raytheon also employed her. She was also an active member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church.
In her memory, she will be loved and cherished by her husband James Anthony Shultz, her siblings the late John Smalls, Eugene Smalls, Benjamin Smalls, Anell Smalls and Alma Hulback. She will also be missed by her daughter Pamela Gay and husband Robert Gay, her son Shaun Shultz and wife Lindsay Shultz and six loving grandchildren; Alexis, Aaliyah, and Robert Gay, Shaun and Evan Shultz and Dakota Shultz-Triplett.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. and the funeral will be held Saturday, July 4, 2009. Both will be held at Mt. Zion Church, Van Zandt Avenue in Newport, RI.
Donations can be made to Mt. Zion Church in lieu of flowers.
