NEWPORT - Thomas E. Mally,
76, of Berkeley Avenue, Newport, RI, died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Newport Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Peterson) Mally.
Born in Newport, on January 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles and Alva (Campbell) Mally.
Mr. Mally was a retired pharmacist who worked throughout his career at Perotti’s Drug, Adam’s Drug, and in his own business, South County Pharmacy in Wakefield, RI. An avid sports fan and supporter of local youth sports, Mr. Mally was involved in local little league baseball and the original start of Newport Babe Ruth Baseball and Newport Youth Football. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
His son Hugh E. Mally and his wife Christine of Boca Raton, FL; his daughter Sarah Michael of Newport; his son Charles Mally of Middletown; his youngest son Thomas J. Mally and his wife Melanie of Newport; 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild survive him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 9 a.m., in St. Mary’s Church, Newport. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church, P.O. Box 547, Newport, RI 02840.
