Frederick A. Reif
JAMESTOWN - Frederick Albert Reif,
87, of Jamestown RI, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Newport Hospital.
Fred was born January 30, 1923, in Pasadena, CA.
He was a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he met and married his wife Barbara Morrill Reif of 62 years. Fred served in World War II where he was on the second wave at Omaha Beach and later in Belgium where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Following the War and upon graduating, he pursued a career as a civil engineer, working for several renowned companies throughout the United States and the world. After serving over 20 years with Perini Corporation in Massachusetts, he and Barbara retired in Jamestown, RI in 1985.
He was an active member in the Jamestown community where he served on the board of trustees at the Conanicut Yacht Club as well as the Jamestown Land Trust. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending his free time playing tennis with his wife and close friends.
He is survived by Barbara and their three daughters, Jean McDonough with her husband Gerard residing in Jamestown, Kelly Carr with her husband Donner residing in East Greenwich and Gwen Allread with her husband Jessee residing in Chico California. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
At his request a private burial will be held with his family.
