MIDDLETOWN - Marion (Bailey) Nelson,
of Middletown, RI, died on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in Middletown, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Col. Arthur A. Nelson, Jr., USMC (Ret.)
Born in Detroit, MI on April 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Paul Charles Vogel and Helen (Lindsey) Bailey Vogel.
Mrs. Nelson moved to Middletown in 1966, after moving frequently with her husband Col. Arthur A. Nelson, Jr. while he served in the US Marine Corps. Marion was an active volunteer at the Newport Hospital and was a member of the Middletown Republican Committee and the Middletown Garden Club.
Her sons Arthur A. Nelson III of Dallas, TX, and Paul E. Nelson of Middletown, RI and her grandchildren, Arthur A. Nelson, IV, Amanda Greenwood, Cpl. Brett Y. Nelson, USMC, and Conor A. Nelson, and her great-granddaughter, Evangeline Greenwood, survive her.
She was the mother of the late Carey Nelson
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009, from 5-7 p.m., in the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Her funeral and burial will be private.
