George R. Daly
NAPLES, Fla. - George R. Daly,
91, died in Naples, Florida on Thursday, August 28, 2008.
Born in Dorchester, MA on September 2, 1916, he was the son of Edward and Grace (Kiley) Daly. He was the youngest of six siblings. His brothers Joseph, Frank, and Edward, and sisters Gertrude and Margaret preceded him in death.
He was married to Virginia E. Evans, who died in 1977. They had three children: Elizabeth Check (Joseph) of Chicago; George Robert Jr. “Bob” (Sheila) of British Columbia, Canada; and Kathleen of Ann Arbor, MI. He later married Pauline Abbott Butler in 1986. She survives. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Susan Kevorkian and Grace Check, and one great-granddaughter, Muriel Kim.
A veteran of the US Navy and World War II, he lived in Newport until 1979 when he moved to Naples, Florida. He worked for the Newport Post Office for 30 years, starting as a night watchman in 1941, and retiring as Superintendent of Mails in 1971.
Services will be private.
