BELEN, N.M. - Florence M. Robinson,

93, of Camino Del Llano, Belen, NM, formerly of Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at her home in New Mexico.
She was the wife of the late Rev. William Robinson.
Born on June 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. Majors and Eltie Mae (Phillips) Jennings.
Mrs. Robinson grew up in Newport and graduated from Rogers High School. She attended Virginia Union University and the Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Newton, MA. Mrs. Robinson had a ministry in Newport the Shiloh Baptist church with her husband Rev. William Robinson. In 1949 she moved to Chicago, while there she attended Chicago State University and received her masters in education, guidance and counseling. Mrs. Robinson became a schoolteacher, a counselor and then Assistant Principal for Chicago Public Schools. After 40 years in Chicago they moved to New Mexico in 1980, where she belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Belen, NM and was very active in the community. In the early 1990s they returned to Newport to be close to family.
Her son Chester Robinson of New Mexico, her daughter Julia Robinson of Evanston, IL, three grandchildren Roberta Gonzales, Arthur Gonzales and Chester Robinson III, her nieces and nephews William Trent, Garold Payton, Russell Payton, Charles Payton, Lois Robinson, Johnnie Platts and Janice James and many great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, survives her.
She was the sister of the late Margaret Crumb and the late Josephine Platts.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with her service at 10 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Broadway and Everett, Newport.
Calling hours will be held today, September 26, 2008, from 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
