NEWPORT - Laura M. Edwards,
89, of Newport, RI, died Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence.
She was the wife of the late Robert F. Edwards.
Born in Newport on December 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Morgan) Reynolds.
Laura was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1936. After completing high school, she worked in the War Department in Washington, DC during WWII for four years. After the War, Laura came back to live in Newport and began working as a legal secretary for many years. She was employed with several different Newport firms including Cornelius Moore, Sheffield & Harvey, Corcoran, Peckham, & Hayes and more recently for Arthur W. Murphy.
Laura will be remembered most for her upbeat personality and her beautiful smile, and will be greatly missed by her loving family.
Her brother William G. Reynolds, of Portsmouth; her stepdaughter-in-law Carol Edwards of Warwick; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive her.
She was the stepmother of the late Richard Edwards and sister of the late George W. Reynolds, Joseph E. Reynolds, Frank J. Reynolds, and Edward F. Reynolds.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
