William J. Collins
NEWPORT - William J. Collins,
89, passed away at Newport Hospital on Saturday, December 29, 2007 after a brief illness.
Mr. Collins most recently resided at the Village House in Newport, RI.
He was the husband of the late Helen E. Collins and lived most of his life in West Roxbury and Norwood, MA.
He was born in Portland, ME on June 15, 1918 to William P. Collins and Sabina Doyle Collins.
Mr. Collins was a graduate of English High and Bentley College. He retired from the MBTA and worked as a Public Accountant for many years after. He was an avid sports enthusiast always enjoying a round of golf. One of his best moments was a “hole in one” at the Norfolk Golf Club.
He is survived by his children Janice M. (Collins) Griffiths and her husband Joseph of Newport, RI, Richard P. Collins and his wife Joan of South Boston, MA. and William J. Collins Jr. and his wife Christina D. Collins of Newport, RI, grandchildren Lauren Griffiths, Joseph Griffiths, Jon Griffiths and the late Christopher P. Collins, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of Margaret Anglin of Scituate, MA and Louise Mazzucotelli and her husband Francis of Winchester, MA.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2008, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial at Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Avenue, Middletown.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home.
