FAIRFAX, Va. - Agnes de Monbrun
passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2007 in Fairfax, Virginia.
Agnes retired from Raytheon and lived on Division Street in Newport for many years. As a lifelong learner and reader, Agnes attended Salve Regina College and Trinity College, London, England in her later years. Antique collecting, theatre, movies and traveling were also favorite activities with which Agnes filled her life. Her great fondness for animals brought about the adoption of many homeless dogs and cats. Agnes believed firmly in the Catholic faith and it became her source of strength through her many months of suffering.
Two nieces, Terese deMonbrun of New York and Catherine Burgh of Fairfax, and a nephew, Thomas deMonbrun of Washington State and their families survive Agnes. Agnes was blessed with seven great-nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Gibbs, Mary and Alice deMonbrun and her brother, Thomas deMonbrun.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Jesus Saviour Church on Broadway in Newport, RI. Inurnment to follow at St. Columba’s Catholic Cemetery, Middletown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, VA or the Potters Animal League, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI.
