NEWPORT - Georgianna (Mello) Gomes,
93, of 398 Bellevue Avenue, Heatherwood Nursing Center, Newport, RI formerly of Forest Farm Assisted Living Center and 2368 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI.
She was the wife of the late Benjamin Gomes Sr.
Born in Fairhaven, MA, on March 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Candida (Thomazia) Mello.
Mrs. Gomes was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center and St. Anthony´s Church. She was a seamstress for many years.
She is survived by four sons, Benjamin Gomes Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, George Gomes, of Casa Grande, AZ, Thomas Gomes of Conifer, CO and Charles Gomes of Deming, NM, a daughter, Louise DiSclafani, of Westwood, NJ; two sisters, Candida Martin of Dartmouth, MA, and Theresa Holland of Fairhaven, MA. She also leaves ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was sister of the late James Mello, Charles Mello, Domingo Mello, Thomas Mello, George Mello, Mary Machado, Eugenia Picanso, Lena Grenier and Agnes Mello.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at 9 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 13, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
