Chester Thomas King
NEWPORT - Chester Thomas "Tom" King,

94, of 9 Robinson Street, Newport, RI, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at home.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Richardson) King.
Born in Newport, RI, on September 16, 1911, he was the son of the late Chester George and Laura (Edwards) King.
Mr. King had started at the former Naval Torpedo Station on Goat Island as an apprentice machinist in 1930 and retired from the Naval Underwater Systems Center as a supervisory engineering technician in 1969. While at the Central Torpedo Office and NUSC he received many awards including the Meritorious Civilian Award. From 1946 until 1950 he was the Production Manager at the Young Corporation in Fall River.
Tom was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He was oldest member of the Newport County Rod and Gun Club and a member of both the Portsmouth Rod and Gun Club, and the Little Compton Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by a daughter Marcia D. Haggis and her husband John of Middletown, RI, and a son Col. William Thomas King and his wife Julie of Bremo Bluff, VA; six grandchildren Alison Myette, Susan Zmich, Cynthia Carroll, Deborah Leary, Debra-Ann Rodriquez, and William T. King Jr.; 10 great grandchildren; a niece Laura Denton of Gaithersburg, MD; and his longtime friend Matthew Kieron of Portsmouth, RI.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport, RI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Emmanuel Church Scholarship Fund, 40 Dearborn Street, Newport, RI 02840.
