Rose Mary Rodrigues
MIDDLETOWN - Rose Mary Rodrigues,

88, of 749 Jepson Lane, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, February 16, 2006, at home.
She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Rodrigues.
Born in Taunton, MA, on April 29, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Antone F. and Frances (Rodrigues) Rodrigues.
Mrs. Rodrigues and her husband owned and operated Toms Service Station beginning in 1945 and Toms Lawn and Garden beginning in 1971 until Mr. Rodrigues death in 1980. She volunteered at the Newport Hospital for 30 years, working in the Blood Bank and interpreting Portuguese for the sick. Mrs. Rodrigues was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1984. She has also volunteered at the Grand Islander and Forest Avenue Nursing Homes and also made cancer pads for the former Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home in Fall River, MA.
Mrs. Rodrigues coordinated and participated in the annual Shrove Tuesday Malassada Event at Jesus Saviour Church for many years. She was also Mordomo of Jesus Saviour Holy Ghost Feast in 1989. Mrs. Rodrigues was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, and a member of the Jesus Saviour Parish Council, the Rosary Sodality, the Bazaar Committee (working in the kitchen for 40 years), the Catholic Daughters, the Grand Regent, the Vasco Da Gama Holy Ghost Committee, the Womens Civic League, the Portuguese American Federation and the Jesus Saviour Portuguese Choir, and was formerly active in the Middletown Democratic Committee for many years.
She is survived by her son Thomas J. Rodrigues Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, her daughters Rose M. Rodrigues of Middletown, RI, Frances Ann Smith of Middletown, RI, Mary Ellen Rodrigues of Masury, OH, and Susan Weaver of North Kingstown, RI; her sisters Beatrice Braga of Redlands, CA, Roselyn Roberts of Yucaipa, CA, and Madeline Smith of Maui, HI; her grandchildren Thomas J. Rodrigues III of Portsmouth, RI, Ellen K. Rego of Portsmouth, RI, Lisa Gould of Mashpee, MA, Adam Silveira of Little Compton, RI, Edward Silveira of Middletown, RI, Holly C. Nobert of Portsmouth, RI, Dawn M. Drake of Middletown, RI, Sheryl R. O'Loughlin of Middletown, RI, Douglas E. Rossman of California, William T. Weaver of Middletown, RI, and Hannah B. Weaver of Middletown, RI; and her great-grandchildren Thomas J. Rodrigues IV of Portsmouth, RI, Lily Ann Rodrigues of Portsmouth, RI, Emily Rose Vierra of Mashpee, MA, Daniel M. Gould of Mashpee, MA, Alyssa L. Silveira of Little Compton, RI, Megan E. Silveira of Little Compton, RI, Jami M. Silveira of Little Compton, RI, Jonathan A. Silveira of Little Compton, RI, Zachary E. Silveira of Middletown, RI, Taylor E. Silveira of Middletown, RI, Julia E. Drake of Middletown, RI, Cassidy Rossman of CA and Keira Rossman of CA.
She was also the sister of the late Antone Rogers, Thomas Rogers, Joseph Rogers, and Harold Rogers.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI.
Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 20, 2006, from 4-8 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
