James K. Behan, Jr.
NEWPORT - James K. "Bud" Behan, Jr.,

82, of 209 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Newport Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jean M. McAuliffe Behan.
Born in Newport, RI, on May 26, 1923. He was a son of the late James K. and Margaret Burns Behan.
Mr. Behan left De La Salle Academy before graduating high school to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served for three years on several ships, including the destroyer U.S.S. Welles. His duties brought him to the South Pacific where he saw action during the invasion of the Philippines.
After World War II, Mr. Behan attended Electrical School outside Washington, D.C. and eventually became a master electrician with several businesses in and around Newport. He also taught evening classes to apprentice electricians at the Newport County Vocational Technical School. A parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Newport and a longtime member and past president of the Dennis E. Collins of the Ancient Order of Hibernians where he was named Hibernian of the Year in 1994 and also a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks 104.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mr. Behan leaves three sons, James K. Behan, III of Indialantic, Florida, Timothy M. Behan of Melbourne, Florida and Kevin E. Behan of Newport, and a daughter Kimberly A. Behan of Middletown, RI; a brother Michael J. Behan of Newport, RI; and seven grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Barbara Behan Booth.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport, at 9 a.m. Burial in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, February 21, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donation maybe made in his memory to the Dennis E. Collins Scholarship Fund or the Ancient Order of Hibernians Building Fund, 2 Wellington Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
