NEWPORT - Linda Mary (Andrade) Owens,
87, formerly of Pond Avenue, Newport, and Ellery Road, Middletown, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at The Mansion Nursing Home, Central Falls, RI.
She was the wife of the late Austin George Owens.
Born in Fall River, MA on March 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Diana (Medeiros) Andrade.
Mrs. Owens moved to Newport as a young girl with her parents and lived here for nearly 80 years. She was a 1941 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Mathers and also worked for 8 years at Salas Restaurant. Linda was a friendly and thoughtful person who was well known and liked throughout Newport. Wherever she went, she was greeted and in turn knew just about everyone she encountered shopping, working, or at the local coffee shop.
Her sons Lloyd E. Foley, Jr. of Miami, FL, and Robert J. Foley of Newport, her daughters Beverly A. Hume of Melbourne, FL, and Sheila M. Francis of Newport, her sister Hilda Santos of Middletown, RI and three grandchildren survive her.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 8 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
